Early this Thursday, residents of the Costa Calma beach in Majorera reported the location of a cetacean corpse. Pending confirmation from experts, who are moving to the area, the Majorero Council points out that it could be a pygmy sperm whale.
The discovery occurs 48 hours after the start of the oil explorations of the Rowan Renaissence vessel of Repsol off the coast of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and on a beach that is about 55 kilometers from the place where the soundings are being carried out.
"It is too early to establish cause-effect relationships and more detailed studies will have to be done, but no one is unaware of the concern about the coincidence in dates and areas with oil explorations. We will have to wait for the scientific reports to verify it," explained Natalia Évora, Minister of the Environment of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura.
