Lanzarote has added a new case of coronavirus in the last hours, rising to 23 the number of active cases on the island. The new patient is a tourist from another island of the archipelago, who has tested positive in the PCR test.
Of the 23 active cases, 11 correspond to tourists and four to immigrants arriving in boats, while eight are residents on the island. Of these last, four had made trips outside Lanzarote, while the rest would have suffered infections within the island and were detected in the tracking protocol, for having been in contact with other affected.
The number of active cases has skyrocketed in recent days and especially on Friday to Saturday, when cases doubled, from 11 to 22. Last day was recorded one of the highest peaks since the beginning of the pandemic, since only in March there were two days in which 13 and 11 new cases were reached in one day.
As for the active cases, Lanzarote had been below ten for three months, and even spent almost three weeks "free of Covid", but on July 9 that tonic was broken and since then cases have been increasing, especially in the last days.
Lanzarote is back in the figures it had at the end of April, in full confinement, although the worst record was at the beginning of that month, when it had up to 64 active cases.
However, all the positives recorded in the last days correspond to asymptomatic patients or with mild symptoms and none has required hospitalization. With the new positives, the number of accumulated cases of Covid-19 in Lanzarote rises to 121.
