Since last January, the hermitage of Soo had to close its doors as a precaution due to the different damages that the infrastructure has due to the passage of time.

According to the town's parish priest, Rafael Tejeda, "the roof has structural problems because it is sunken, both the oldest part of wood and the most recent part of cement, and the passage of time causes the woods to split and that aluminosis has also appeared." Also the beams are in poor condition, as is the front exterior of the hermitage.

In addition, he assures that the temple closed its doors to the faithful after an architect inspected the infrastructure and recommended its closure "as a precaution" five months ago.

Tejeda has pointed out that, from now on, "this will take a long procedure." In addition, he pointed out that "the Heritage Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote already visited the hermitage to assess the damage."

Regarding where the mass of the festivities of San Juan Bautista will be celebrated this June, the parish priest has stated that it will be held in a tent, something that "they had already planned."
