José Valle, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, was this Tuesday on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero to answer some questions in relation to the poor condition of the gardens and other areas of the Lanzarote Airport.
Regarding this, Valle said that last week he met with Aena in Madrid to discuss some issues such as investment and the state of gardening. "It seems that there is a problem with the company that had the tender in its day because it had economic problems and had to stop the cessation of activity, and until an ERTE was generated, a new tender could not be made that is already practically finished and what they tell us is that in a month and a bit or two months it can already be fixed".
In addition, the president pointed out that this situation not only affects the Lanzarote Airport, but the rest of the aerodromes in the Canary Islands.
José Valle also pointed out that "when it affects security, Aena is trying to issue a small specification with a minor contract to be able to solve it in some way, but the bureaucracy is not easy at all".
"I know that they are working urgently to resolve it, but I also know the public administration and here you have to make a tender, first the specifications and then be able to tender it, everything has a fairly extensive process and that is where the focus of the problem is", he continued.
Other issues discussed with Aena
Valle also highlighted that "Lanzarote is in luck with everything that is coming, everything that is being done to expand the large terminal, the project that has to be reflected in the DORA, in the four-year investment plans". In this sense, he explained that "the project should be finished before next year and the execution will be done from 2027 to 2031 with two very important action plans".
He also detailed that "what they are going to do at the airport is modernize it and make it much more user-friendly, and it is going to grow in quality and I think that for us it is already a great advance".
In addition, the president of the Chamber assured that at the airport "there is a lot of feeling of saturation and that the services are not in accordance, so the plans that are made today must last in the long term and I think there will be an important update of what the terminal is and that will allow us to enjoy an airport with much more space".
