The PSOE of Lanzarote celebrates the start of the works of the modernization and digitization project of the irrigation in the northeast of the island, financed with 24.4 million euros by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of the Government of Spain, through the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
From the PSOE they emphasize that this important investment is "the result of socialist management and the sustained commitment to the primary sector and the sustainable development of the Lanzarote countryside."
The island director of the State Administration in Lanzarote, Pedro Viera, has stressed that "the PSOE fulfills its commitment to the agriculture of our island. This project will not only modernize the irrigation system, but also marks a before and after in terms of sustainability, energy efficiency and responsible use of water."
The project will directly benefit 667 irrigators who cultivate about 300 hectares of agricultural land in the municipalities of Tinajo and Teguise. The action includes the construction of a seawater desalination plant by reverse osmosis, a reservoir, a pond, new irrigation networks and a wind turbine to partially supply the system with renewable energy.
According to Viera, "the future of the countryside involves innovation, and this investment, promoted by a progressive Government, is the best proof that the PSOE not only believes in the primary sector, but also acts to guarantee its viability and competitiveness."
The start of the works was attended by institutional representatives such as the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Begoña García Bernal, the president of SEIASA (State Mercantile Society of Agrarian Infrastructures), the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, and other authorities linked to the agricultural sector and the island administrations.
