She entered the main road, ignoring the stop sign, and collided with another vehicle that was traveling towards the ring road, coming from the Pier. The driver of the car that was hit was slightly injured and was transferred to the General Hospital by the emergency services that came to the area.
These are the facts that illustrate a new accident that occurred this Wednesday, around four in the afternoon, at the so-called Mármoles crossing. In this case it was not serious, but it is an area classified as "conflictive" by the Local Police of Arrecife since it registers between four and five reports per year. Although according to the head of the body, José Antonio Lasso, the indicative is not so much the number of collisions, since he assures that there are points in the capital where a greater number occurs, but rather the potential "danger" of a level crossing.
"Accidents in this area are more serious because it is a crossing of two roads where vehicles travel at higher speeds", explains José Antonio Lasso. There is also a greater transit of heavy vehicles, which leave the Pier, and in this sense accidents where trucks are involved usually result in worse consequences.
The truth is that since a new incorporation lane was enabled to exit from Costa Teguise, as a measure to alleviate the "conflict" of the area, the number of accidents has been reduced according to the head of the Local Police of Arrecife. But the problem remains in the opposite direction, from Arrecife towards the tourist town, so the number of reports is still high. "We have had some deaths and serious injuries", recalls José Antonio Lasso.
