The Civil Guard of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria culminated on April 8 the so-called 'Operation Jaira' under the tutelage of the Court of Instruction number 8 of Arrecife, dismantling a criminal organization that trafficked cocaine from the Colombian city of Medellín.

The drugs were transported in postal shipments that declared to contain samples of handicrafts, inside which the cocaine was perfectly camouflaged and impregnated with substances that prevented it from being detected by sniffer dogs, reports the Civil Guard in a statement in which it highlights that it is "an innovative technique for introducing cocaine into our country that denotes the high specialization of the criminal organization".

The top leader of the organization, J.C.J.C., 29 years old, of Colombian nationality and resident in Lanzarote, directly imported the drug from Medellín.

The security measures used by the mastermind of the organization were very meticulous and to receive the shipments he used the identities of people without police records who were recruited by being remunerated with significant amounts of money. Once the package arrived at its destination, they proceeded to withdraw it, always under the supervision and control of people belonging to the organization.

After the first police intervention, M.A.V.B., 23 years old, and J.J.F.V., 31 years old, both of Colombian nationality, were arrested when they were trying to withdraw the shipment at a customs agency in Lanzarote.

The police work was decisive for the identification and location of the top leader of the organization, who, after learning of the arrests of the previous two, used various means of transport with the intention of leaving the country evading the action of justice. However, he was surprised at the Gran Canaria airport moments before he took a flight to Madrid, from where he intended to fly to the Colombian city of Pereira. As a result of these arrests, they were all imprisoned, the note continues.

Subsequently, a fourth arrest occurred, in this case of a woman also of Colombian nationality, C.R.A., 35 years old, who maintained a close relationship with the main involved, collaborating in the recruitment of people in charge of withdrawing the packages.

The most shocking thing about the investigation has been the discovery of the specialized and innovative techniques that were used in the country of origin to camouflage the drug. For this, they made bamboo flowerpots, made to measure, to which a vertical hole was made in their surface in which a steel semi-cylinder was perfectly inserted inside which the cocaine was found.

The result was the seizure of twelve semi-cylinders from whose interior approximately a total of 1,500 grams of cocaine hydrochloride were extracted, an amount that would be multiplied up to ten times, once it had been prepared with cutting substances for distribution throughout that and other islands of the Archipelago.
