After intercepting this Thursday morning a boat heading south of Gran Canaria, the Civil Guard has arrested in Arguineguín since Wednesday about 50 immigrants who were trying to reach the Canary coasts.
At about 09:10 this Thursday, the Civil Guard of the post of Arguineguín was alerted by a fishing boat that had collided with a boat 5 miles from the Cementera de Arguinegüin, in the south of the island. After starting the rescue device, the boat of Maritime Rescue goes to meet the boat, taking charge later the Civil Guard of all its occupants, 21 males, sub-Saharan adults, of different nationalities.
On the other hand, this Wednesday, at about 22:00 hours, after receiving notice from a Security guard of the Port of Arguinegüin, who from a fishing boat that was sailing in the area had seen a boat 3 miles from the coast, direction Puerto Rico, the Civil Guard initiates a rescue device, locating the boat at 22:50 stranded on the Playa de Amadores.
Its occupants, 27 people, 1 male minor, 4 adult women, 22 adult males of sub-Saharan origin, who embarked on December 30 in Costa de Nouhadbou, in Mauritania.
All were transferred to the Civil Guard Post of Arguinegüin, and only 1 of the adult males was transferred by the Red Cross to the Health Center of Arguinegüin, for presenting symptoms of hypothermia. The boat in which the immigrants were traveling is 12 meters long by 2 meters wide, white, equipped with a 40 hp Yamaha Enduro engine.
