The employees of the pharmacy in the Deiland Shopping Center, who were working on Friday afternoon, saved the life of a 55-year-old man who suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest while inside the establishment, according to confirmed by both witnesses and local workers.

"It was a good scare", an employee of the pharmacy told La Voz, who explained how, when approaching the counter, the man fainted and fell to the ground unconscious. Given this, she said, the employees called emergency services but, while the ambulance arrived, they provided first aid.

"Two colleagues from the team, a girl who had been an ambulance worker and another boy, performed the resuscitation on him", said a worker, who stated that, thanks to this, the man's pulse could be recovered, who was later treated by the paramedics from the ambulance that went to the scene.

The affected person was transferred to Gran Canaria

According to what they learned in the pharmacy from a relative who was with the affected person at the time of the events, the man was transferred "immediately" to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where "he underwent surgery and had a catheterization".

"And he was reacting", said a worker, who hopes that "he is well". "We haven't known for two days, but the first responses were positive", added this employee, who has called "to reflect" on the importance of citizens knowing how to provide first aid. "Because this can happen on the street, at home, at work, anywhere, and it is worth each of us knowing how to provide such emergency assistance as this", she pointed out.

A "wake-up call" to society

In this same sense, a citizen has spoken to La Voz to recount what happened in the pharmacy of the Deiland Shopping Center, highlighting "the calm and decision shown by a heroine and a hero in white coats".

"This news is not merely informative, it is also a wake-up call to a society (I include myself), which must know and practice concepts as simple as CPR or AED that can save lives; and not only other people's lives, but also that of a family member. No one is exempt from suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest and at that moment we will want to have heroes and heroines by our side who fight for our lives", he pointed out.
