Adverse weather conditions had caused the crew to lose the rudder

Emerlan and the Bottlenose Dolphin rescue a boat adrift off the coast of Puerto del Carmen

There were no personal injuries to regret after the first outstanding service of the Maritime Rescue unit after its return to Lanzarote.

November 7 2005 (18:30 WET)

A boat of between 18 and 20 meters in length that was adrift last Saturday had to be rescued off the coast of Puerto del Carmen, near Punta Barranquillo, according to the NGO Emergencias y Rescate Lanzarote (EMERLAN).

The aforementioned institution received the alert at around 1:45 p.m., and in turn activated the Delfín Mular vessel, of Maritime Rescue, agreed between the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, which quickly came to the aid of the vessel that was adrift.

Five crew members

According to the information provided by the NGO Emerlan, there were up to five crew members on board the ship, and the ship had lost its rudder due to adverse weather conditions, so it later ran aground.

Due to this loss of control over the ship, the captain requested the tow to Delfín Mular, which evacuated the ship arriving at Puerto Calero at around 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon.

Despite the incident, fortunately there were no personal injuries to regret.

As will be recalled, the Delfín Mular rescue boat of the Government of the Canary Islands has returned to operate in Lanzarote since the beginning of last November, after the signing of the agreement and the service concession contract signed with Emerlan.
