Little Domingo was playing last Sunday, September 11, in the well-known Plaza de Los Leones in the Villa when the plate of the fountain located there collapsed on him, causing a traumatic brain injury with severe hemorrhage. The child was transferred to the General Hospital and from there to Las Palmas, where he has been hospitalized for eleven days, four of them in the Intensive Care Unit.
Although the first diagnoses feared for the child's life, Domingo has already been discharged from the hospital and has returned to Lanzarote. "It has been a miracle and thank God we have him with us," said Loli Carmona, Domingo's mother, upon arrival in Guacimeta. The parents, who openly show their satisfaction and joy, have assured that now the priority is to fully recover the little one and give him everything he needs.
Domingo has evolved very quickly and according to Loli Carmona, the morning before leaving for Lanzarote they visited the Intensive Care Unit to say goodbye and thank all the staff for what they have done for the child. "As soon as they saw him, they told me he looks like someone else."
Despite this spectacular recovery, Domingo has some after-effects that they don't know if he will be able to overcome. "He has a problem with his hand. He can't open and close it well and his foot bends a little, although he can walk," said Antonio Silva, the boy's father.
The Silva Carmona family will still have to visit Las Palmas several times to see Domingo's evolution. "Now he has a treatment for his head and we have to go back in a month to see if he reacts well," explained Loli Carmona.
The little one's parents have commented that the child doesn't remember anything about the accident or the moments afterwards, "he only has memories of the Hospital and of us with him there."
Complaint to the City Council?
Regarding the possible lawsuit that could be filed against the City Council for the state of the fountain, Domingo's father, Antonio Silva, has stated that this "is in the hands of his lawyer" and that he "will take the measures he has to take" and will be the one to agree with the City Council. "The important thing now is that the child is well and that we have him with us."
