Resident in Fuerteventura, although born in Gran Canaria, the young man, around 35 years old, who lost his life this Thursday, January 1, while celebrating the New Year with a group of friends, was practicing one of the sports he liked the most: surfing.
The place chosen by the young people was the beach of the town of La Santa in the area known as "El Quemao" of the municipality of Tinajo, which is characterized by having a rocky bottom. Therefore, the first hypotheses of the Police suggest that the young man may have been dragged by a wave to the bottom, and hit against the rocks.
The young man's body appeared unconscious on the shore and, according to Emerlan, he was in cardiorespiratory arrest and had a head injury. Some young people present in the area tried to revive him at first.
Subsequently, Emerlan paramedics took over in the cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers until the arrival of the medicalized ambulance of the Canary Islands Emergency Service.
After the incident, Emerlan volunteers, agents of the Civil Guard of San Bartolomé and the Local Police, as well as a medicalized ambulance from the SUC, went to the scene, who, despite trying to revive him, could do nothing to save his life.
