A resident of Tahíche has tried to burn his home with his wife and two children inside, according to the Teguise Local Police, who say they managed to avoid "by seconds" this family tragedy.
The events occurred in the early hours of this Tuesday, when the police received a call in which a neighbor warned that there were two vehicles burning in a lot in Tahíche. The agents quickly notified the Fire Department of the Island Council and both appeared at this place.
Once in the town, they received a second call, in which they were alerted that a neighbor was trying to set fire to his home with his wife and children inside. The agents immediately moved to the house and, according to reports, found a man "on an aluminum ladder, with a rope held around his neck".
According to the Teguise Municipal Police, when the man saw the agents, he dropped and was suspended in the air for a few minutes. Luckily, the police managed to catch him and saved his life.
This man, who responds to the initials J.L.T.R., has confessed to the agents that he himself had burned the two vehicles minutes before, both of his property, and a house located on a farm in the north of the island, which is also his. According to the agents, he has reiterated "his intention to re-attempt against his life".
Therefore, the Local Police has activated the 112 emergency services, who proceeded to transfer him to the Hospital José Molina Orosa of Arrecife. In addition, he has transferred the case to the Civil Guard of Costa Teguise, who has been in charge of the custody of J.L.T.R and has instructed the judicial proceedings.
