Agents of the National Police Corps attached to the Superior Headquarters of the Police of the Canary Islands have recently completed, within the framework of Operation 'Carrera', an investigation against drug trafficking in Arrecife in which a man and a woman, both of Colombian nationality, have been arrested, dedicated to the introduction and sale of cocaine on the aforementioned Island.
The prevention and surveillance work carried out by the Narcotics Group of the Arrecife National Police Corps Police Station, bore fruit when four months ago it became known that an individual, of Colombian nationality, Diego M. M., 35 years old, resident of Arrecife and without a criminal record, could take advantage of his work as a taxi driver as a cover for the distribution of cocaine.
At the same time, it was observed that he led a very comfortable life, making large expenses improper of someone with limited purchasing power. In addition, the agents were able to verify that the aforementioned Diego frequented the "hot spots" of drug trafficking and that he associated with people known and previously arrested by the same officials in charge of the investigation.
The investigation revealed that in his illicit activities he was accompanied by a woman who turned out to be Ximena S. E., 29 years old, also Colombian and without a criminal record, as a necessary collaborator.
The agents managed to find out that both intended to travel by car to the island of Fuerteventura, with the intention of introducing a certain amount of the aforementioned drug and where they would obtain greater economic benefit, so they organized a police device that allowed them to detect their presence in a vehicle in the port of Playa Blanca.
Intercepted both suspects before boarding, the officers proceeded to search the vehicle, where 550 grams of cocaine were found, perfectly camouflaged and distributed in twenty-six cylindrical containers and two packages, proceeding immediately to the arrest of both as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking crime.
In the police stations, the pertinent procedures were processed with which they were placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, which ordered the imprisonment of the two detainees.
