A 60-year-old man of foreign origin has suffered a less serious leg injury after falling in the Montaña Roja area in the municipality of Yaiza.
The incident took place at around 11:00 this Wednesday. A call alerted the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands, reporting that a hiker had suffered a fall in a difficult-to-access place and needed medical assistance since he could not continue his journey.
Local Police and Civil Protection officers accessed the site and, once it was verified that it was not possible to carry out the rescue by land in safe conditions, it was necessary to request the assistance of the GES helicopter. The staff of the Canary Islands Emergency Service also accessed the area and provided initial assistance to the affected person.
The GES helicopter made a partial support in the area and its rescuers, with the collaboration of the rest of the personnel deployed in the place, transferred the affected person on a stretcher to the aircraft for evacuation to the island's airport. From there, he was transferred by SUC ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital.
