The municipality of Yaiza will show off its nativity scene this year, thus maintaining, despite the exceptional circumstances caused by the pandemic, a tradition of more than forty years that began with its first creator, the late Tito Viera, in the late seventies.

“We opted for a nativity scene in a circular shape that retains its charm and occupies less surface area to try to make visits faster. We ask from now on for prudence and the collaboration of the people of Lanzarote to enjoy the portal avoiding crowds”, said the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda.

The designer Alexander Dorta and the team of municipal workers that accompanies him are working "flat out" to have the work ready in the first days of December. In the portal will be represented places such as the Mountains of Fire, Salinas de Janubio, La Geria and Charco de los Clicos, where the number 2020 will be symbolically reflected, “a very hard year that will appear as a kind of mirage in the water”, according to the designer.

The creative idea is completed by a dozen hermitages from all over the island and Canarian houses made to scale. The nativity scene, located next to the Plaza de Los Remedios, has an approximate area of 120 square meters.

Apart from the construction of the nativity scene, Yaiza is also advancing in the work of installing the lighting and decoration that will liven up the Christmas and Kings season, with the purpose of decorating the towns of the municipality and showing "a friendlier face" of the open commercial areas.
