The White Night of the Villa de Teguise expects to receive more than 10,000 people in its X edition, which will be held this Friday, July 22, with 12 uninterrupted hours of activities, concerts, and artistic expressions in different locations of the Historic Site.

"Our Historic-Architectural Site was established 11 years ago as an ideal setting in Lanzarote to host exhibitions, concerts, performances, tours, scenographies, and creations that touch all facets of contemporary art and that have filled its cobbled streets with much magic and energy," highlighted the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort.

This new edition is the first after two years of forced stoppage due to the coronavirus pandemic. The event will feature concerts in Maciot de Bethencourt Square, children's and youth activities in La Mareta, sports and workshops of all kinds in the Municipal Tent, exhibitions, flamenco and reggae in Nueva Street, more performances, folklore and artistic proposals in Clavijo y Fajardo, Camilo José Cela and the Catholic Monarchs, among others.

In addition, the mayor recalled that "the White Night as a cultural event has toured the main cities of the world since Paris celebrated its first Nuit Blanche or White Night in 2002 as a unique opportunity to discover the City of Light in a different way" and adds that this artistic initiative "took over the streets with such success that it has spread to different corners of the world to illuminate the Royal Villa de Teguise."

"On behalf of the Culture area of Teguise, and on behalf of all the municipal departments that have made possible this program that we present with the same enthusiasm as the first edition, we invite you this Friday to Teguise, from the afternoon until three in the morning, to enjoy a program difficult to summarize due to the multiple disciplines and plans it contains, which will have as its main stage our emblematic Plaza de Los Leones and the rest of the Historic Site and its exquisite commercial and restaurant offer," said Councilor Nori Machín.

Bus service and cleaning plan

"The organization of a public show of such magnitude entails an exhaustive Security and Emergency plan, which includes the support and presence of all security and health services, in addition to a special public transport device of buses that will depart from the rest of the municipalities of Lanzarote," they emphasize from the Consistory.

Likewise, the Teguise City Council reminds that the parking lots enabled in the Villa de Teguise will be of free access and there will be a reinforcement of taxis at the entrance of the Historic Site.

On the other hand, it is already planned that around five in the morning, once the event is over and the area cleared, the cleaning services will enter to leave the Villa prepared for a weekend with other attractions such as the Motocross Freestyle and the usual Sunday Market.

"A thousand thanks to our people of Teguise, to my island of Lanzarote and to all the Canary Islands for always attending the call of culture with a predisposition that excites us, because thanks to that response we can continue projecting the future from the maximum respect to an active, effective and lasting tourist-heritage model," concluded Betancort, encouraging to live this new event "with the responsibility and civic-mindedness that has always defined the White Night of Teguise."
