El Torrelavega hosted last Thursday the concert of Chago Melián called "When I sing I paint and when I paint I sing." An event that is part of the program of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the society.

The singer from Tenerife was accompanied by two magnificent musicians, the guitarist Fernando Cruz and the timple player Víctor Estáriko. As Melián explained, this show was an idea that arose in times of pandemic, when everyone went out to the balconies and windows of their houses, he gave his neighbors a concert every day, choosing some of those songs and with them touring the archipelago and now it was Lanzarote's turn. He dedicated the free hours to painting, a passion that awoke in him when he was very young.

The public that filled the Torrelavega enjoyed and sang as much or more than Melián, songs that for many of the attendees are still the "soundtrack of their lives" such as La flor de la Canela, Mi tierra Guanche, Alma Llanera; Amanecí en tus Brazos, O'Sole Mío, María la Portuguesa etc.

Since in 1979 he won the first prize in the famous Spanish Television contest "Gente Joven", in the light song category he has sung in various parts of the world in countries such as Argentina, Uruguay or Miami. Chago Melián is also well known among the Canarian public for his interpretation of the "Ave María", by the composer Schubert, a song with which he put the finishing touch to the concert "When I sing I paint and When I paint I Sing." Melián throughout his career has recorded six albums, carefully crafted works that keep him fully up to date.
