The public school of Tahíche returned to the streets of the town to celebrate the tradition and Canarian customs with its music and typical clothing on the occasion of Canary Islands Day. The boys and girls went out accompanied by donkeys and carts decorated with palm leaves and remembering aspects of the parties of always, such as the stalls and honoring the artist César Manrique Cabrera.
It has not been a novelty that more than a thousand people changed the daily normality of the town on this day, since this Center for Early Childhood and Primary Education has distinguished itself in recent years by celebrating, on the occasion of Canary Islands Day, one of the most popular pilgrimages held in Lanzarote in the school environment.
The center takes advantage of the important roots of Canarian traditions in this town and the collaboration of the neighborhood, to have the donkeys and traditional carts that mark the distinction of a real pilgrimage in the Archipelago.
The real novelty in this edition of the Canarian pilgrimage of the CEIP César Manrique Cabrera has been the twist they have given to the approach of this event, turning it into the first Inclusive Pilgrimage, a meeting where to make visible people and groups with different abilities, to improve coexistence, empathy and solidarity.
Therefore, all the students of the Special Educational Center Nuestra Señora de Los Volcanes and members of other groups such as Adislan and the Maraua Senior Center also participated in the Inclusive Pilgrimage.
It is the intention of the CEIP César Manrique Cabrera to turn this Pilgrimage into a meeting point for people with disabilities during the celebration of Canary Islands Day.
It is expected to have all the enclave classrooms of the island in future editions. The CEIP César Manrique Cabrera has an enclave classroom and is a preferred center for the integration of students with hypoacusic disabilities.
The school is convinced that it is an important opportunity for personal development and learning of values for students. On the island, other inclusive meetings are held, such as the Haría School Carnival and the Arrecife Adapted Olympics, the public school of Tahíche is postulated as host of the Inclusive Pilgrimage, for all students with disabilities.
At 9.30 in the morning this year the Pilgrimage left, headed by the school's Parranda, directed by the teacher Antonio Monzón, and by the dance group, which is coordinated by Violeta Santos.
They were followed by a pony, accompanied by its owner, followed by the students of Infantil and the first cart, the largest of all.
Behind them were the students of first and second grade of Primary and the Aula Enclave, together with the youngest of the Special Education Center, who marched in front of another cart pulled by the donkey. They were followed by the students of third and fourth grade of Primary, and another group of the Specific Center together with another cart.
Closing the parade marched the students of the Specific Center for Transition to Adult Life, the students of fifth and sixth grade of the CEIP César Manrique Cabrera, members of Adislan and the Maraua Senior Center. Together with them, walking along the route of the Pilgrimage, conveniently dressed in Canarian clothes, many relatives and neighbors of the town, observed and encouraged by another crowd that accompanied them from the sidewalks, photographing and saving for the memory this endearing meeting.
After the walk came the return to school, where the romero dance was celebrated in different patios of the school and where all the invited groups participated around the tables with Canarian products.
The organization appreciates the collaboration of the City Council of Teguise, which provides resources and the Security Plan, as well as the Cabildo of Lanzarote, which provided tents for the children's area.
Together with them, the collaboration of the people has been once again fundamental, as it is their neighbors who provide fundamental elements for a pilgrimage such as donkeys and carts. Thus, the school appreciates the collaboration of the neighbors: Nito Delgado, Miguel Ángel Niz, Antonio Niz, Julián Curbelo Valdivia, Benit Santos, Pablo Rodríguez Abreut, Samuel Rodríguez, Juan Salvador, Benjamín, Francisco Rodríguez and Begoña Caraballo. Thanks to all of them, we were able to count on the pony Mateo and the donkeys Mansito and the donkeys Catalina and Sofiona.
