The teacher from Teguise accused of a crime of sexual abuse against a primary school student will finally be tried on April 21 in the Arrecife Courts. Initially, the hearing was going to be held at the end of January in Gran Canaria, but it had to be suspended and this new date has already been set.

In addition, according to the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, the Second Section of the Provincial Court has now decided to move to Lanzarote for the trial.

The accused, Wenceslao P. R., faces a request for 6 years in prison from the Public Prosecutor, as well as absolute disqualification for 12 years.

The events allegedly occurred in October 2019, at the CEIP Alfonso Spínola, where the accused has his place as a teacher.

According to the Prosecutor's Office's indictment, “taking advantage of his position as a French teacher, while teaching a class to primary school students, driven by his sexual attraction to minors, with lascivious intent and with the intention of satisfying his most reprehensible sexual instincts, he approached a student and began to touch her back and thigh, even reaching her hand between her thigh and her private parts.”

The Public Prosecutor's Office points out that as a result of these events, “the minor has suffered an emotional affectation proportional to the events committed against her by the accused.”

Restraining order and compensation of 2,000 euros

Along with the prison sentence and absolute disqualification, the Prosecutor's Office also requests that he be prohibited from approaching the minor or communicating with her for 16 years, as well as a special disqualification for any profession or trade, even if unpaid, that involves contact with minors.

In addition, it requests that in the event of a conviction, after serving the prison sentence, he be released on probation, to avoid contact with children and with the victim herself, and demands that he participate in sexual education programs for pedophiles for 6 years.

Regarding compensation to the minor for “moral damages”, the Prosecutor's Office sets it at 2,000 euros, which it requests be delivered to her mother as her legal guardian. Of this sum, in case of non-payment, it also requests that the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands respond subsidiarily.
