The six people who allegedly participated in the landing of more than 600 kilos of hashish in Playa Quemada in October 2014 will be in the dock on March 25, accused of a crime against public health. The Prosecutor's Office is asking for six years in prison for four of them and six years and nine months for the other two, who had previously been convicted of drug trafficking, so for them it adds the aggravating circumstance of recidivism.

In addition, the Public Prosecutor's Office is also asking that they be sentenced to pay a fine of 2,978,601 euros each, as well as that all the objects that were seized in the operation be confiscated, including a Valiant Type boat, a vehicle and a satellite telephone.

In its indictment, the Prosecutor's Office relates that the operation was dismantled by the Canary Islands Organised Crime Team of the Civil Guard, which “became aware of the dedication of a group of people to the introduction and subsequent distribution, with total disregard for the health of others, of the substance hashish on the island of Lanzarote”.

The events occurred at around 11 p.m. on October 25, 2014, when D.G.M. and I.G.M. arrived on the island by boat with the drugs. In total, 21 bundles were seized with a total weight of 633.61 kilograms, which according to the Prosecutor's Office “would have reached a value of 992,867 euros on the illicit market”.

In Playa Quemada, they were awaited by two other defendants, P.M.M. and J.J.C.C., who carried out the work of carrying the bundles of hashish, as well as the defendant S.E.I., on board the vehicle that they were going to use for transport. As reported at the time by the Civil Guard, these last three were arrested on the beach, while the occupants of the boat were arrested at the Marina Rubicón port, where they went after unloading the drugs.

The sixth defendant, M.A.C.A., was in another car carrying out “counter-surveillance work on the road accessing Playa Quemada”.

The trial will be held before the Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas and due to the short time that has been set for the hearing, the defendants may have reached a settlement agreement.
