Diamond Resorts Spain enters the TOP 10 of hotel sustainability and rehabilitation projects in Spain, within the eighth edition of the Re-Think Hotel awards. The hotel group has two establishments in Lanzarote, Club del Carmen Puerto del Carmen and Jardines del Sol in Playa Blanca.
Re-Think Hotel is organized by a private group called Habitat Futura and has the support of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Spain, the World Tourism Organization, several Spanish offices of Climate Change and Ecology and the Institute of Responsible Tourism. This contest, which promotes hotel sustainability, follows the criteria of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
The contest values various factors of hotel sustainability:
- Global sustainability: environmental characteristics, use of ecological suppliers, selective waste management and recycling.
- Building sustainability: use, management and maintenance of the building, staff training; the efficiency of the facilities and participation in renewable energy projects.
- Marketing and CSR: sustainable marketing strategies and actions aimed at customers or special existence in relation to activities respectful of the environment.
- Heritage: preservation of the cultural heritage of the destination.
- Universal accessibility: accessible facilities for people with special needs.
Last January, two other Lanzarote hotels received the awards of this contest from the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. Villa Alondra, in Puertos del Carmen, received first place in the TSMEDIA category for the Best Executed Hotel Sustainability and Rehabilitation Projects. Hotel Teguise Playa, in Costa Teguise, won second place in the Think Hotel category for the Best Hotel Sustainability and Rehabilitation Projects to be Executed.
