The hotel chain with the greatest capacity to attract and retain talent in Spain is Meliá Hotels International, according to the Merco Talento España 2023 report, which has published a ranking of the 200 best companies to work for in all sectors.
Merco Talento considers three values: labor quality, which includes salary, professional development and work-life balance; the brand, that is, how much the company is admired for its values, accredited and recognized as a good employer by independent entities; and internal reputation, which includes its ethical and professional values, development opportunities and the identification of workers with the business project.
Among the 200 companies that appear in the classification (the first three are Inditex, Iberdrola and Repsol), there are 6 from the hotel sector: Meliá, NH, Barceló, Iberostar, Riu and AC. NH and AC do not have hotels in Lanzarote, but they do in other islands of the archipelago.
Four hotel groups with a presence in Lanzarote
The best placed, at number 19, is Meliá, which rises from the 32nd position it occupied in 2022. The group has two hotels in Lanzarote: the Salinas Paradisus, in Costa Teguise and the Sol Lanzarote, in Puerto del Carmen.
Next, the ranking points to NH Hotels Group as the second best hotel group to work for in Spain. It occupies position 30, and rises 9 positions with respect to the previous year.
NH does not have hotels in Lanzarote but it does in other islands. On the one hand there is the NH Playa Las Canteras in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the NH Tenerife in Santa Cruz. It also participates in the shareholding of the Tivoli La Caleta Tenerife Resort in Adeje.
In third place is Barceló Hotel Group, which has fallen from position 65 in 2022, to position 125 last year.
Barceló already had two hotels in Costa Teguise, the Active Resort on the one hand and the Teguise Beach on the other. It has recently opened the largest hotel on the island in Playa Blanca.
The hotel group Iberostar occupies position 131. The previous year it did not appear in the classification. In Lanzarote it has the Selection Lanzarote Park hotel in Playa Blanca.
Right in the next position is located the group Riu, which obtained the position 132 and descends 10 steps with respect to the previous year. In Lanzarote it has the Hotel Paraíso in Los Pocillos.
The sixth hotel group that has obtained a position among the 200 best companies to work for in Spain is AC Hotels de Marriot, which was in position 144. The previous year it was not part of the classification.
AC does not have hotels in Lanzarote but it has the Iberia Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and the Tenerife in Santa Cruz.

The study includes the opinion of 35,640 workers, 7,066 university and FP students, 870 alumni from business schools, 8,001 citizens, 246 human resources managers, 85 from unions, 42 experts and headhunters and 84 professors.
The monitoring of the methodology established by Merco for the elaboration of the ranking of companies with talent in Spain has been subject to independent review by the consulting firm KPMG.
