The Canary Islands archipelago is the second autonomous community with the highest absenteeism with a rate of 7.3%, according to the human resources company Randstad, which puts the number of Spaniards who missed work each day on average in the second quarter at more than 1.26 million, which is equivalent to the loss of 6.2% of the agreed hours, 0.9% less than in the previous quarter.

Most of the work absences, 77.9% of the total, were due to temporary disability, while the remaining 22.1% occurred even though the worker was not on leave, which puts the rate of unjustified absenteeism at 1.4%.

By autonomous communities, the highest rates of absenteeism occurred in the Basque Country (8.4%), Canary Islands and Cantabria (both 7.3%), in a classification that closes the Balearic Islands (5.5%) and Madrid (5.3%).

More specifically, health activities recorded the highest rates of absenteeism (10.2%) and the lowest were concentrated in real estate activities, advertising and the leather and footwear industry, all with 4.1%.
