56% of Canary Islanders believe that the 4-day work week will be a fully widespread practice within five years.
This is one of the results of the research carried out by the multinational human resources company Gi Group Holding, in its report What the labor market will be like in five years.
The study, which includes data at the national and community level, has analyzed several of the challenges of the labor market in the coming years, such as digitalization, employee training, the consolidation of new forms of work, and economic uncertainty.
Most Canary Islanders also believe that in-person work, whenever possible, is numbered. According to the study, 53% of Canary Island respondents believe that hybrid work will be the most common way to work in the coming years.
More than half of Spaniards think that workers in our country are not sufficiently prepared for the upcoming changes in the labor market. Young people between the ages of 18 and 24 are the most confident in their preparation; however, the older they get, the more skepticism grows about their suitability for future needs.
Flexibility and adaptation on the rise
Likewise, 89% of Canary Island respondents believe that in five years there will be jobs that do not yet exist. For 78% of Canary Islanders, this circumstance is a way for there to be more job opportunities.
However, the emergence of new jobs will mean that others are destined to disappear. According to 79% of respondents from the archipelago, professions based on more rudimentary and repetitive tasks will be replaced by artificial intelligence. 67% believe that technology may be an excluding factor for certain workers.
Almost 3 out of 4 Canary Islanders trust companies and their ability to adapt to the new reality of the market. In fact, 54% of Canary Island respondents believe that the soft skill that will be most required by companies in the coming years will be the ability to adapt to change. 78% think that not adapting to new technologies could be a cause for dismissal within 5 years.
