Despite being the earliest harvest since records have been kept, the grape harvest in Lanzarote has finally been close to 2 million kilos of grapes collected. The Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin 'Vinos de Lanzarote' considers that "it is a larger quantity than expected, although, due to the lack of stock in the wineries, it may not be enough to maintain the market levels that have been achieved in recent years."

The Regulatory Council, as reported by La Voz de Lanzarote, feared that the scarce rains this year would affect the size of the grape and therefore its quality, but finally "they are satisfied with the quality." With 99% of the harvest collected, pending a few kilos of the later varieties, 1,945,785 kilos of grapes have entered the 32 wineries belonging to the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin 'Vinos de Lanzarote'. The native variety, Malvasía Volcánica, has been the predominant one in the 2022 harvest, representing 70% of the total; with more than 1.4 million kilos collected.

After Malvasía Volcánica, the second variety most collected in Lanzarote has been Listán Negro, with 199,201 kilos. During this harvest, Listán Blanca, Moscatel de Alejandría, Diego or Syrah grapes have also arrived at the wineries. In a smaller proportion, vines of Baboso Negro, Burrablanca, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Negramoll Mulata, Ruby Carbenet, Tempranillo, Tintilla or Viljariego Negro have been cultivated on the island.

The 2022 harvest is the earliest on record in Lanzarote, since the grape harvest officially began on July 6, a historic date since data has been collected.

"This year fungal diseases have been almost non-existent, thanks to the great work and dedication of the island's winegrowers and winemakers in dealing with possible pests," explains the Regulatory Council. However, this year's harvest has been slightly lower than the previous one, in which more than 2 million kilos were collected.
