More than 31,000 residents on the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa are assisted through the various programs, aid, and resources funded by the Directorate General of Social Services of the Government of the Canary Islands, via the social services of the seven municipalities on the island.

This data was released by the Director General of Social Services, Elisabet Santana, during the working meeting she held this Wednesday with the Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Marci Acuña.

In total, around 167,341 people live on the island, which means that almost two out of every ten residents receive help from Social Services.

"In this meeting, we have focused on addressing the different projects that the Government and the island's Cabildo are developing jointly in terms of care for the most vulnerable population and families, such as the various economic social aid programs received by nearly 300 family units on the island who receive the Canarian Citizenship Income and the 1,300 people who receive a non-contributory pension, as resources to support social inclusion," explained the Director General of Social Services, Elisabet Santana, who indicated that these were some of the issues addressed in the meeting, which also covered social demands from Lanzarote.

"The aim of this visit has been to unite the efforts we are making from the island council and the Government of the Canary Islands so that social welfare reaches the families and people of the island," explained the island councilor for the area of Social Welfare and Inclusion, who clarified that in this meeting, topics of interest for Lanzarote have been addressed, such as the island Strategy for Accessibility and Inclusion and the social policies that we are developing from the island institution.

The Director General also had the opportunity to greet the president of the Island Council of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, who thanked the Government of the Canary Islands for the decisive collaboration it maintains with the Institution, "not only in terms of infrastructure, but also through the support it offers to place people at the epicenter of social policies in the Canary Islands".
