The grape harvest in Lanzarote this season will reach 1,900,000 kilos and will finally be very close to the more than two million kilos that were harvested last year, despite the scarce rainfall this year, according to the Regulatory Council.

“Normally around 150 liters accumulate per year and this year there have not been even 60 liters accumulated”, explains Darío Pérez, technician of the Regulatory Council.

Due to the heat, this year's harvest, which began in early July, “has been the earliest since we have data”, confirms Pérez.

Although the heat and the scarce rainfall recorded this year do not seem to have had a great impact on the quantity harvested, it could affect the quality of the grape. “The lack of rain added to a winter with many episodes of haze does not help the development of the grape”, explains the technician of the Regulatory Council.

"It will be noticed in the size of the grape in Tinajo, which will have less juice, while in La Geria it will not be noticed so much since there are fewer plants per surface with irrigation", according to the Regulatory Council.
