The Valencian company Boluda Container Factory has requested from the Port Authority of Las Palmas the concession to use the public domain of more than 5,000 square meters of the Los Mármoeles Dock to install an area for maintenance, repair and conditioning of containers, refrigerated or not, intended for the transport of goods.

The Port Authority of Las Palmas has published this past Monday in the Official State Gazette (BOE) this request, which goes to public exhibition for one month so that other similar companies that wish to compete in this tender can submit their application.

Applications must be submitted through the electronic headquarters of the Port Authority, while in the case of being a natural person through the General Registry of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, in Gran Canaria.

With this announcement, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has highlighted "the strength and strategic location of the port of Arrecife" and has assured that this concession "is in line with the great future that Arrecife offers as a maritime hub".

Arrecife, strategic port

The mayor of Arrecife, who is also a member of the Council of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, recalls that the capital of Lanzarote contributes more than 30% of the cruise tourism revenue business to the State ports in the province of Las Palmas, and has a strategic position for being located on a strategic axis from the Canary Islands with North Africa and the European continent.

According to the statistics of the Port Authority, through the port of Arrecife, a total of 239,495 tons and 77,733 containers have disembarked in the first quarter of this 2026. During the 12 months of 2025, the volume of disembarked containers amounted to the figure of 525,683 with an increase of 3.11% compared to 2024.

Reef, supplementary plan and blue economy

De León has stressed that with the Supplementary Plan, 49.3 hectares of industrial land are classified in Arrecife, which will attract new business and industry establishments. These areas are located, mainly, in the vicinity of the road connections with the port area of Arrecife. The capital's mayor has remarked that the economic future of Arrecife and Lanzarote is focused on boosting business activity linked to the blue economy.
