The Lanzarote Civil Action Platform has publicly denounced the serious incident that occurred this Tuesday, between 1:00 PM and 1:15 PM, on Doctor Juan Negrín street in Arrecife, at the height of the establishments ISORLAN, Compro Oro, Vendo Gangas and Bar TinTan.
According to accounts, a group of individuals accosted a young male in the middle of the public street, berating him for an alleged debt. During the altercation, the aggressors tried to snatch his mobile phone.
When the young man indicated that the device was not his property, one of the individuals began to physically assault him, giving him several blows and uttering death threats in case he did not settle the debt.
The situation generated a huddle of people, notably increasing the tension, while the young man was cornered against a wall and continued to be assaulted.
Minutes later, three National Police vehicles appeared at the scene, whose agents proceeded to identify those involved and to search a van-type vehicle, allegedly linked to the individuals.
Upon the arrival of the officers, both the assaulted young man and some of those involved had already dispersed. At the scene, several of the individuals remained along with a woman. According to the Lanzarote Civil Action Platform, "no arrests were made at that moment".
From the Lanzarote Civil Action Platform warns that this type of situation "are occurring with worrying frequency in this environment, turning the area into a conflictive and potentially dangerous spot at certain times of the day".
These events, they point out, "constitute a serious alteration of public order, especially when taking place in a busy space and during peak hours, where neighbors, minors, and elderly people coincide."
Therefore, the Platform requests from the competent authorities an immediate reinforcement of police presence, as well as the adoption of preventive measures that guarantee safety and coexistence in the area.
Likewise, it calls on the citizenry to collaborate with the security forces and report any situation that could put at risk collective tranquility and security.
