The Kellys Lanzarote Association supports the strike called by Sindicalistas de Base in the chambermaids subsector in the Canary Islands for December 25 and January 1 because it coincides with some of their demands such as the "excessive workload" and "early retirement."

The Kellys of Lanzarote regret, however, that the strike was called by "a minority union without the support of the main unions", pointing out that from their association on the island they have asked the majority unions to "call a strike against the work overload" and for "ergonomic studies to be carried out in all hotels in Lanzarote and the community in general." "The only thing that the majority unions have answered us is the possibility of a general strike in the hospitality sector for next summer 2018, a very long time for our health that cannot wait so long to solve such an urgent problem," they say.

The group recalls that it has gone "to the European Parliament in Brussels to demand compliance with current regulations on the prevention of occupational hazards that hotel employers continue to disrespect." "That is why we support the strike and we want to emphasize that the calling union is not a majority union in the hospitality sector nor is it the chambermaids' union; it is only a union that has a strong presence on the island of Tenerife,"

The Kellys of Lanzarote say they are "aware of the fear that exists among many chambermaids, perhaps due to pressure from bosses and managers or perhaps due to ignorance of the right to strike." "An imposed fear that falsely makes people believe that there is a possibility of dismissal for those who decide to go on strike," they point out from the association, from where they announce that they will campaign on networks and in other places "to make it clear that the strike is a right of everyone and no one, not even temporary workers hired by ETT and pirate companies, can be fired for going on strike." "Now is the time for everyone to be united and to take a big step forward to conquer our rights," they conclude in a statement.
