The central Executive has authorized the distribution among the autonomous communities of 30 and a half million euros destined to various agricultural aid lines, of which Canary Islands will receive 21 million through the Program of Specific Options of the EU due to remoteness and insularity (POSEI), informs the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
The increase in the allocation in this line will alleviate the effects of the current economic situation derived from the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the sustained increase in production costs, which is added to the conditions of insularity that affect farmers and ranchers of the Canary Islands.
The distribution of 4,883,758.80 euros corresponding to the Apiculture Sector Intervention (ISA) has also been agreed within the framework of the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
During the period 2023-2027, and in accordance with the planned allocation, Spain will have almost 9.6 million euros per year from the community budget for this intervention.
This increase, of approximately 70% with respect to the previous period, places the total budget available for the Apiculture Sector Intervention in Spain above 19 million euros per year (19.2 million euros).
The European Union, through the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF) finances 50% of them, while the other 50% corresponds to the Member States.
In the case of Spain, the financing is divided equally, 25% each, between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and the Autonomous Communities, except for the Basque Country and Navarra, which co-finance 50% with their budget.
The funds are channeled through seven types of intervention: advisory and technical assistance services; investments in tangible and intangible assets (including actions to combat hive aggressors, streamlining transhumance, repopulating the bee population and preventing damage from adverse weather phenomena); analysis of honey and bee products; preserve or increase the number of existing hives; research on beekeeping; support for the promotion and marketing and quality of products.
