A report issued by the Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL) has shown an increase in self-employment in Lanzarote this year.
Specifically, May ended with 11,150 self-employed workers, data that means that the number of affiliations to the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers has increased by 527 people compared to the same date in 2021, which represents an increase of 5%. Thus, 17% of the total affiliations on the island correspond to self-employed workers.
The president of the CEL, Francisco Martínez, valued this increase in the interannual rate and pointed out that "this is a clear sign of economic recovery after the health crisis, as well as the effort made by citizens, by the businessmen themselves and by the institutions that try to support entrepreneurship."
"Although in general the affiliation levels that existed before March 2020 are only slightly exceeded, when the economic effects of the pandemic began to be felt, the number of affiliations to the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers already far exceeds that of that date," added the president.
Regarding the data for the last twelve months, if an analysis is carried out by sectors, the services sector is the one that advances the most in number of people, since it goes from 8,753 affiliates to the RETA in May 2021, to 9,210 on the same date in 2022.
Meanwhile, administrative activities, with 97 new registrations, are the main ones in the sector in increasing affiliations, followed by 62 in commercial activities, and 48 in hospitality. However, if the study is carried out taking into account the percentage growth, work in industry on behalf of others increases its workforce by almost 7%.
The CEL has wanted to highlight that the Business Advisory Service (SAE) has proactively participated in this evolution, which in the last twelve months has processed 49 entrepreneurship and self-employment registrations and has advised about a hundred potential self-employed workers.
