The number of Social Security affiliates continues to skyrocket in May in Lanzarote, with 66,303 contributors, thus marking a historical record, according to the report of the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.
This is the second consecutive month where the maximum figures ever recorded are reached. Specifically, May has added 318 people, or what is the same, 0.5% more affiliates than in April, when the peak was recorded with 65,985 contributors.
In addition, if compared with the figures from the beginning of the year, the growth is much greater, of almost 3,000 more people, since in January there were only 63,317 affiliates. And in year-on-year terms, this grows by 14.5%, since in May 2021 there were only 57,905 affiliated people.
It should be noted that the data rises in all the municipalities of Lanzarote in the month of May, with Arrecife, the capital, concentrating the bulk of the affiliates, with 26,817 people. It is followed by Teguise (10,051), San Bartolomé (8,528), Tías (8,464), Yaiza (7,390), Tinajo (2,913) and, finally, the municipality of Haría (2,140).
The affiliates to the tourist sector and the hospitality industry continue to grow
Regarding the distinction of Social Security affiliates by economic activities, the hospitality industry continues to be crowned as the sector that brings together the most contributors in Lanzarote, with 19,485 people, followed by wholesale and retail trade and the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 11,375 affiliations.
Finally, in third place, are administrative activities and auxiliary services with 4,950, although it is important to mention that this last one is the only one that has experienced a fall in May, of 65 people.
With respect to the different economic sectors, the tourist sector is once again, for another month, the one that concentrates a third of the total. Specifically, in the fifth month of the year it registered 24,784 affiliations, of which 10,828 worked for hotels, 8,657 for restaurants and 1,318 in road transport services, although the latter decreased by 13 people compared to the previous month.
