The expansion works of the Playa Blanca port will improve the maneuverability and enhance the operability of the regular lines of passenger, cargo and merchandise transport that connect Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

"The works carried out have enhanced the operability of the area, since until now we coexisted three maritime operators dedicated to the regular transport of passengers with smaller fishing and recreational boats," explained Saray Estárico, delegate of Fred. Olsen Express in Fuerteventura. "The improvement in maneuverability helps us not to interfere with the activities of other port users."

In addition, the new expansion will allow access to facilities much more modern and adapted to the large volume of traffic between both islands, which will bring great benefits in terms of comfort and safety.

"This is the dock that has registered the highest traffic in recent years in the Ports of the Canary Islands network, reaching more than one million people and about 300,000 vehicles in a year", adds Manuel Ortega, managing director of Puertos Canarios.

On the other hand, the works aim to contribute to the commitment of shipping companies such as Fred. Olsen Express to the environment, so a new eco-sustainable station will be established.

The reforms are 85% co-financed within the framework of the ERDF Operational Program of the Canary Islands (2014-2020) and executed by the Ports of the Canary Islands entity, dependent on the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands.
