Iberia workers plan to reactivate the strike in Guacimeta next month

They are currently awaiting air traffic forecasts for August, as well as the rulings that some employees have pending. The conflict has been indefinite since mid-June of last year, although it is only activated during peak seasons, which gives a bad image of the Island.

Next August, Guacimeta airport could once again experience chaotic situations like those of last year. The reason is that the workers of Iberia's handling service plan to reactivate the strikes in August. The dates are not yet known, as, according to the spokesperson for the strike committee, León Fajardo, "we are waiting to see how the traffic comes in August".

The stoppages could have started this month. However, the entry and exit of airplanes of the airline has been reduced, according to the data offered by León Fajardo, by 15% compared to the same month of 2005. For this reason, the workers would be waiting for the largest arrival of airplanes to again raise their demands.

On the other hand, some employees are also waiting for the sentences of their trials to come out "for dismissals or union persecutions, although we do not know when they will come out because the Court is saturated", commented León Fajardo. In addition, the one known as the million-euro trial has not yet been held after several delays, the last date decided being next September 26.
