The Government of the Canary Islands has just presented the first regional consumer voucher campaign to reactivate commercial activity on the islands. Of the 80,000 vouchers that will go on sale from April 15, almost 6,500 are for Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
The establishments that will be able to participate will be those of food, electronics, IT, telephony, DIY, toy stores, party items, bookstores, fashion, sports, and accessories, among others.
The distribution of the vouchers by islands is as follows: Tenerife, 29,455; El Hierro, 2,419; La Gomera, 2,826; La Palma, 4,293; Gran Canaria, 29,620; Lanzarote and La Graciosa, 6,469; and Fuerteventura, 4,920.
The initiative has a budget of 2.5 million euros and will be managed jointly by the four Chambers of Commerce of the Canary Islands.
Businesses will be able to join the platform until the end of the campaign, which will last for two months.
How do the vouchers work?
Each voucher will have a value of 50 euros, of which 50% will be paid by the customer at the time of acquiring the voucher, and the other 50% will be financed by the Government of the Canary Islands through the managers of the Chambers of Commerce of the islands. The user pays 25 euros and gets 50 for their purchases.
The maximum number of vouchers that can be purchased is four (100 euros), but you can buy twice the amount invested (200 euros) in any establishment on the island.
The same user can redeem several vouchers in a single purchase and also acquire vouchers on several islands. That is, buy up to a maximum of 28 vouchers (4 per island) for which they will pay 700 euros, but they can spend 1,400 euros.
To formalize purchases, it will be necessary to present the ID before payment in the establishment, as well as the voucher in printed or digital format. Each location has a maximum spending limit of 5,000 euros, so the vouchers can be used until the establishment's balance is exhausted and before the campaign concludes.
The Minister of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed, Manuel Domínguez, pointed out that these vouchers respond to a commitment acquired by the Government of the Canary Islands with the commercial sector and aim to contribute to "reactivating sales in the sector in this valley period before the start of the summer sales".
