After several months in which the Canary Islands had the highest inflation in the country, the February data, published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), reveal that the consumer price index (CPI) rate in the archipelago stands at 3.1%, the same figure as in the Basque Country and below the inflation of Extremadura (3.3%) and Galicia (3.2%).

However, inflation in the Canary Islands is still higher than the national average, whose rate stands at 2.8%. The regions with the lowest rate are La Rioja and Navarra with 2.5%.

In the last month the rate has decreased by 0.4% both nationally and in the archipelago.

The sectors that contributed the most to the decrease in prices in the last month were household electricity, as well as clothing and footwear due to the price reductions typical of the end of the winter sales period.

Compared to a year ago, food prices have also fallen, mainly legumes and vegetables and meat, while price increases in fruit, bread, cereals and mineral water have been lower this month than in 2023.
