Last Friday, Bodega El Grifo received its awards at the CERVIM 2022 World Extreme Wine Competition at the Casa del Vino in Tenerife, located in the town of Sauzal. The competition was held in Aosta (Italy) last September and recognized the work of winegrowers who face extreme environmental and climatic conditions.

The award ceremony of the 30th World Extreme Wine Competition 2022 brought together the awarded Canarian winemakers and winegrowers. The event was attended by the vice president of Cervim, Manuel Capote, the regional minister of agriculture, Alicia Vanoostende, and the director of ICCA, Basilio Pérez.

The Lanzarote winery obtained a Gran Oro medal for Orange Wine 2020, as well as three other Gold medals for Moscatel de Ana Brito, Lías 2019 and Afrutado Colección 2020, as well as the Special Jury Prize for the winery with the most high-quality wines.

The event highlighted the strategic importance of a wine sector that places the Canary Islands and its wines at the forefront of the international scene.

Manuel Capote highlighted "the effort made by winegrowers and winemakers to produce such high-quality wines", with special mention of the practice of heroic viticulture, "which is a type of viticulture conditioned by the difficulty presented by land with slopes that can exceed 30%".

Alicia Vanoostende highlighted the high quality of the wines produced in the archipelago, as well as the practice of heroic viticulture with unique characteristics in the world.
