The Hospiten Group has decided to expand its Neurophysiology team with a new Sleep Unit specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. The objective of this project is to improve the quality of life of patients, adults and children, who suffer from this type of disorder and sometimes lead to other diseases such as depression, hypertension or heart attacks.

It should be noted that the first consultation at the Sleep Unit is usually carried out by a Neurophysiologist through a conventional Neurophysiology test. During the night, different physiological variables of the subject are measured while sleeping, such as brain activity, muscle tone, eye movements, EKG or the level of oxygen in the blood, among others. This study allows to obtain an accurate diagnosis and suggest an appropriate treatment for each case and patient.

As explained by Doctor Navajas, specialist in Clinical Neurophysiology, "the test performed with the polysomnograph objectifies what happens during rest after spending just one night in the Sleep Unit." With the completion of a final report, "it is studied whether the patient needs medication with drugs or another type of device."

The most common sleep disorders are sleep apneas and hypopneas, followed by insomnia, parasomnias, narcolepsy and restless legs syndrome. Sleeping well is essential to lead a healthy life, therefore, the deterioration of the quality of life of the person who suffers from this type of alteration is undeniable.

The variation of routines, sudden changes in schedule and the type of activity can affect the well-being of the individual, causing stress, anxiety and problems to maintain an effective and restorative sleep. "People spend a third of their lives sleeping and that is why it is very important to take care of rest", explains Doctor Navajas. "Therefore, it is necessary to monitor and subsequently treat the problem so that it does not worsen, leading to pathologies that have no solution."
