Lanzarote wines continue to reap new awards, this time El Grifo has won two gold and three silver medals and Vega de Yuco with two bronze medals in the 19th edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards international competition, known as the "largest and most influential" wine competition in the world.

Specifically, the Malvasía Lías 2019 wine from Bodegas El Grifo has obtained 95 points, becoming the only winery in the Canary Islands to which this score has been awarded in a similar category, something they are "very proud" of. For its part, the Canari reference has also obtained gold and its Seco Colección 2021, Ariana 2019 and Brut Nature Reserva 2016 wines have taken the silver.

Meanwhile, Vega de Yuco has won two bronze medals in these awards, thanks to its Vega de Yuco white wine and its Esencia Yaiza from 2021, both made with the native Lanzarote grape variety, Malvasía Volcánica, from the latest harvest. From the winery they are "very satisfied and excited" by the new recognitions received.

This year, the Decanter World Wine Awards has broken the record for wines evaluated, with 18,244 references judged from 54 countries. Over two weeks, nearly 250 industry experts, including 41 Masters of Wine and 13 Master Sommeliers, evaluated the different participants.

The Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Vinos de Lanzarote wanted to congratulate the island's wineries for "continuing to put the great work done in the international spotlight", especially El Grifo and Vega de Yuco for these awards obtained.
