The Parliament of the Canary Islands welcomes Christmas with a Nativity Scene dedicated to Lanzarote. The president of the House, Astrid Pérez, inaugurates the traditional Nativity Scene, dedicated to Lanzarote, and the Christmas lighting in an act that included the performance of the Gran Canaria group 'La Trova'.
The Christmas holiday arrives with the inauguration of its traditional Nativity Scene, and the Christmas lighting that will embellish its facade until January 7, 2024. Astrid Pérez, accompanied by members of the Bureau and deputies from all parliamentary groups, welcomed this festive period with the wish that "Christmas, represented here with a Canarian accent, brings us peace, joy, hope and prosperity."
Astrid Pérez highlighted this Tuesday that "the birth of the Canarian Parliament is a tribute to our culture and our Christian roots. Set in Lanzarote, it offers scenes, characters, landscapes and elements that unite the magic of Bethlehem with the island identity."
"The birth is shown here with typical costumes and hats, religious and architectural references from Lanzarote, camel drivers, fishermen, farmers or Canarian artisans. From Arrecife to Teguise, passing through Mancha Blanca, Timanfaya or Los Jameos. The star that guides the Three Wise Men from the East travels the sky of Lanzarote to inspire, from the Parliament, all the inhabitants of the Archipelago," Astrid Pérez highlighted.
In addition, the President has highlighted on her social networks the "special" moment they experienced during the inauguration. "It has allowed us to share a special moment with deputies, staff of the House, members of the Canarian Government and the people who have come to the courtyard," she pointed out on her Instagram account.
This Nativity Scene is the work of the master Fernando Benítez and his team. This nativity scene artist from the Gran Canaria town of Moya, with more than 30 years of experience, stressed that "the Nativity Scene of the Parliament is a valuable bastion of Christmas in the islands, a sign of the pride and devotion of the Canarians for their land. On this occasion, the personality, landscapes, customs and people of this island of overwhelming beauty shine, which leaves no one indifferent." Benítez added that it is a Nativity Scene of "about 60 square meters" with "an exclusive collection of figures dressed in the customs of the people of Lanzarote from past eras."
The Nativity Scene can be visited between December 13 and January 7, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. On December 24 and 31, the opening hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on December 25 and January 1, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
After the presentation of the Nativity Scene and the lighting, the Gran Canaria group 'La Trova', directed by Misael Jordán, put the musical note with their most Christmas repertoire.
