She has been in business for 30 years and, during this time, she has seen the area deteriorate. This is explained by Madeleine Erfurth, whose business is located on Reina Sofía street, in Puerto del Carmen. "It is a commercial area that is a pity," she says.
She stopped going to the City Council to complain a long time ago. "I spoke many times with the previous mayor and now with the new one I don't even think about it. What for, if it's no use?" she says. She assures that the poor condition of this street and this area has invited many businesses to close.
She is one of the only ones who remains, and because the premises "are bought and not rented". "They have left, because the area is so bad that not so many tourists come up", she indicates.
One of the biggest problems is the garbage. "We have some bins, some containers, in front of us, which are always open, with the lids broken, and the garbage on the floor. They look horrible. Customers always ask why everything is so dirty," this woman complains.
Another big problem is the state of the wall that is placed on that street. "It's destroyed. It has been in poor condition for years, I can't even say how many. In addition, the land in this area is full of rubble, of waste. That has also been going on for years," she criticizes.
Madeleine Erfuth asks for "simply common sense" and that this area, one of the most touristy on the island, be taken care of. "I find it outrageous that this continues like this," she denounces.
