A woman was rescued from the sea at the Playa Chica pier in Puerto del Carmen. According to Silke Buchner, a witness to the event, she was in the area and upon seeing the woman in distress due to the strong waves, "I ran to the beach to find the lifeguard who immediately jumped into the water to rescue the woman."
"However, due to the enormous waves, the lifeguard could not get her out of the water, so the guys from Bar Playa threw them a life preserver tied to a rope so they could hold on. They tried to get both of them out but it was not possible due to the force of the large waves crashing against the wall and the rocks," explains Silke.
Seeing that it was impossible to get her out of the water, the lifeguard asked for Emerlan to be called, and in a few minutes, an NGO boat arrived at the scene. The lifeguard and the woman managed to swim to the boat, but "even so, it was difficult to get the woman out of the water and onto the boat."
Silke Buchner concludes her story by congratulating "everyone involved for saving a life in Lanzarote."
