El Antonio, José Pereira Galviaty and La Cristina streets in Arrecife, in the Titerroy neighborhood, have been closed to traffic since last January due to the works being carried out in the capital of Lanzarote. The residents of these three roads have not been able to access their homes by vehicle since the 22nd of the first month of the year and have had to, since then, travel only on foot, also in the moments in which they must move the monthly shopping.

Blanca, a resident of the area, has contacted La Voz to report that she has been unable to access her house by car for months. "You may know that since January 22 they closed the streets, they spent a week doing nothing in the section of my house. Then, they put up the fence, there were two people working, and when they managed to put in a shovel, they made some holes and now they realized that they could not continue, because the stone that is there is no machine in Lanzarote to access it," she told this newsroom indignantly.

The work had to be completed on April 1, according to this neighbor to La Voz, but however, it has not been completed yet. In this line, the neighbor has assured that when she asked the Arrecife City Council for explanations to know how long it would take, they told her "that it was not their business, but of the Government of the Canary Islands." After that, this citizen contacted the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote and discovered that "it was indeed a municipal competence."

However, sources from the Arrecife City Council attribute these works to the Board of Directors of Sociedad Mercantil Estatal Aguas de las Cuencas de España SA (Acuaes). These works would be framed within the project to expand and improve the Arrecife treatment plant and improve the land section of the outfall of the capital.

"If you hire a company, you are responsible for that company. If you are the Councilor for Works, you are the one who has to talk to that work," she added indignantly. This neighbor asks that if the works "cannot continue, close the hole and let us in and out." In addition, she has assured that she has conveyed to the council the need that, if they do not reopen the street to traffic, they offer someone to help her bring the shopping up to her house, since she has many animals to feed.

According to the data of this citizen, around 40 people are affected by these works, only in her street. In addition, a month ago, the PSOE of Arrecife assured that "the municipal works" in several streets of the city isolated the neighbors.
