Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote closed this Saturday a season to remember with a resounding victory against Uneatlántico Pereda (37-27) and the mathematical conquest of the league title. Las batateras, already promoted to the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola two days ago, signed a new triumph supported by a devoted fans and confirmed their absolute dominance in the Division de Honor Oro. With this victory, Zonzamas is not only champion, but also breaks the historical record of points in the category since its creation.
The match started cold for the locals, who took time to find their rhythm. Pereda took advantage of the first defensive imbalances to place 2-5 in the 6th minute. An exclusion of Isabel Colias complicated the reaction, but Ainhoa García took the team on her back to cut differences (8-10, min. 15). The Cantabrian team continued without giving ground, maintaining advantages of two and three goals until the last minutes of the first half.
Then emerged the character of the leader. Nahomi Márquez put the 11-13 in the 22nd minute, and after a time out of Pereda, Zonzamas reacted strongly. A shot by Andrea Claramonte sealed the tie at 15 and the first half concluded with a 16-16 that returned the equality to the scoreboard.
The second part was another song. Pereda came out without ideas, while Zonzamas entered champion mode. In just eight minutes, Isabel Colias and Andrea Claramonte signed the 23-20 and the pavilion exploded. The high pressure and recoveries allowed to run to the counterattack and extend advantages. Botella signed the 28-23 in the 17th minute and the match began to be dyed red and black. Pereda got stuck without offensive response, and the visiting coach asked for time out with 32-24 in the 24th minute.
Three from the end, the youth Naydith Morales put the 35-25, the maximum difference of the match. Juan José Rivera asked for time out to surprise with a tribute to Mary Sánchez, who was saying goodbye to professional handball. The match concluded 37-27 in an already festive atmosphere.
At the end of the match, the pavilion lived a celebration full of emotion. All the players who will not continue next season were honored, and there was a farewell between tears and hugs. The mayor of San Bartolomé, the captain Ingrid Roger, the president and coach Juan José Rivera and several players of the first team took the floor, who thanked the fans for their constant support. The pavilion recognized with an ovation the effort and commitment of a squad that is already part of the history of the club.
With this victory, Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote not only proclaims itself league champion and Liga Guerreras Iberdrola team, but also signs a historic campaign in which it has broken the record of points in the category and has exerted an overwhelming dominance. There is still one last day to enjoy without pressure... but with the ambition to continue making history.
