The Canary Islands Rallysprint Championship arrived this Saturday to the island of Lanzarote with the "Tomás Viera-Tinajo", which was held with a great attendance of fans in the section "El Cuchillo-Caleta Caballo", with dry asphalt after a rainy morning in this area of the island of volcanoes. Majority participation of Lanzarote teams, with some visits from the followers of the Regional of Tenerife or Gran Canaria.
The test was also valid for the Las Palmas Championship and for the island competition. Precisely the leader of the Lanzarote championship Yeray Lemes was the great dominator of the test with the Porsche 911 GTR, on this occasion "baptizing" as co-driver another member of the Lemes saga, his niece Bárbara of only 16 years, who accompanied him occasionally in this race at the doors of home.
Again, Yeray with the Porsche was far superior to the rest of theoretical rivals and added the second consecutive victory, with total security in this delicate timed section. He also achieved the scratch in all six passes and even allowed himself the luxury of improving his own records, adding a difference of almost a minute over the competition with Rally2 vehicles. Although it is true that these drivers are a priori the two aspirants to the Canary Islands rallysprints championship and they fulfilled their role well, but without taking into account the leader of the Regional Rally CCRA, who was in another superior stage. 2.37.8 and 2.38.7 are the best marks in each direction of the 5.5 km route (33 km in total) that left us the victory of Lemes-Lemes.
Also running at home, Oscar Cabrera-Aitor Cambeiro did not use their own mount (engine revision after their incident in Gran Canaria) and resorted to another Citroen C3 Rally2 unit from Sport&You Canarias, specifically that of Sergio Fuentes from Tenerife, occupying at all times the second place in the classification and adding a new podium that consolidates him as the leading team of the CCRS. And in the third place of the podium the other favorite of this event, Julián Falcón-Jacob Páez, who in Lanzarote did not want to get into impossible fights and dedicated themselves to comply with the Skoda Fabia Rally2 and it will be in other more favorable tests when we see him in the fight for the triumph. The differences between the three teams that formed the podium were wide, with Cabrera 52 seconds behind the winner and in turn 28 seconds ahead of Falcón. The latter had more problems to contain the desire for the podium that Alvaro Caballero-Noé González showed with the BMW M3, who finished fourth only 2.1 seconds behind the Skoda, after a very good race for them.
Already in fifth place finished the winners in category 2, also from Lanzarote Oscar Curbelo-Diego Curbelo with the Renault Megane, who maintained that position for only 5.6 seconds in the overall computation of the rallysprint over the Peugeot 208 Rally4 of Aníbal Machín-Borja de León, sixth in the general classification. They were followed in this order by Jonás Rodríguez-Diego Cabrera (Renault Clio Cup), Suso Lemes-Julián Arrocha (Renault Megane), Jonay Fragiel-Kilian Camacho (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo) and Davi Pérez-Mónica Hernández (Peugeot 208 Rally4), who closed the group of the top ten.
First of category 3 were Rubén Rivera-Tanausú Barreto with the Peugeot 206 XSi, in addition to finishing 21 absolute of the rallysprint. The F group was for the M3 of Alvaro Caballero. In Pre-2000 the trophy was taken by the Megane of Oscar Curbelo and the Pre-90 for the Toyota Corolla of Adián pérez-Daniel Fernández.
Highlight one more year the involvement of the mayor of Tinajo, host municipality, as its owner and pilot Jesús Machín returned to put on the helmet and accompanied by his daughter Naroa in a Peugeot 208 Rally4, took the 13th place overall despite losing time in a straight that they did at the Soo crossing.
With these results, Cabrera and Cambeiro are strengthened in the regional leadership and provincial rallysprints, with Falcón-Páez behind them. In Lanzarote, Yeray Lemes already has a new island title in his hand.
A total of 27 vehicles achieved the classification of the 30 that took the start in Tinajo, so three were left out by mechanical failures, without any road departure that is already very good news in this complicated section of El Cuchillo. The town of La Vegueta dismissed the test with the final trophy ceremony and the traditional sardine barbecue offered by the city council to all participants and fans. An act that was presided over by the mayor himself, accompanied by the president of the FALP, Miguel Angel Domínguez and the organizing committee of the CD. Evesport.
