Volunteers are wanted for the 2010 Ironman

More than 1,500 athletes will leave Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen this year in the world's most enduring sports competition, the Ironman Canarias Lanzarote Triathlon. The athletes who face this test, considered the most prestigious on the planet after the one that decides the world championship in Hawaii, have to swim 3,800 meters, cycle 180 kilometers and then run a marathon with its 42.1 kilometers on foot.

In the 2010 race, which will be held on May 22, there are about 80 athletes from triathlon teams from Lanzarote participating in it, but also, as every year, there is another large number of people from the island who, selflessly, collaborate in the development of the competition so that it can be carried out: the volunteers.

Therefore, once again, the Island Sports Service of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has begun the recruitment of volunteers, with a campaign that has already started and will conclude on May 14.

Those interested in collaborating with the organization of this competition only have to fill out and submit the registration form. To do this, they can download it from the website of the Island Sports Service, which is www.lanzarotedeportes.com, or they can go to the Sports departments of each town hall, the Lanzarote Sports City, or for more information you can also call the Island Sports Service at 928810100 (ext. 3500). The only requirement to register as an Ironman volunteer is to be over 16 years of age.

From the Island Council, the population of the island is encouraged to register and thus be part of and collaborate in one of the most important sporting events in the world, so that the competition has adequate coverage and optimal development, since it is an event that gives international fame to the island of Lanzarote, as reported by the first institution of Lanzarote through a statement.
