Magec Tías Lanzarote Against Gender Violence could not extend its good run of results and was defeated this weekend by Unilever Viladecans Dishelec65 by 76 to 60, in a match in which a bad second half ended up tilting the score in favor of the Catalan team. The defeat prevents the Lanzarote team from climbing to sixth position in the standings, dropping to eighth place with only one matchday left to conclude the regular season.
The match, held in the Atrium pavilion of Viladecans, started with an even and fast-paced first quarter. Both teams, already with their initial objectives of permanence fulfilled, showed a loose and uncomplicated game, which led to a constant exchange of baskets. The Catalans started with a slight advantage of up to five points, but Magec Tías Lanzarote reacted quickly and even momentarily took the lead. The first quarter concluded with a tight 25 to 24 favorable to the locals.
The second quarter was, without a doubt, the best stretch of the match for Jesús García's team. With a high success rate in outside shooting —up to six three-pointers scored— and a positive streak of 13 unanswered points, the Lanzarote players managed to impose their rhythm and go to halftime with a 10-point advantage (35-45), generating optimism among their players and the fans who followed the match from home.
However, everything changed after the break. Unilever Viladecans Dishelec65, led by coach Xavier Paredes, found the success from the three-point line that had eluded them in the first half. In just a minute and a half, three consecutive three-pointers almost completely equalized the score and forced the Magec Tías Lanzarote bench to request a timeout. Despite attempts to redirect the situation, the Lanzarote team failed to regain control of the game, and the locals closed the third quarter with a favorable partial that put them ahead: 58 to 53.
In the last quarter, Magec Tías tried to intensify their defense to stop the impetus of the Catalans, but the physical wear and tear and the lack of success, especially from the perimeter, became noticeable. Throughout the match, the island team attempted 31 three-point shots, scoring only one in the entire second half. For their part, Viladecans signed a dozen three-pointers, a difference that ended up marking the outcome of the match. Despite the final efforts of Magec Tías, the score ended up reflecting a clear 76 to 60 for the locals.
With this defeat, Magec Tías Lanzarote Against Gender Violence sees its opportunity to reach sixth position truncated and is currently in eighth place in the standings. The team will seek to close the season with a victory before their fans on April 26 at 6:00 p.m. in the Municipal Pavilion of Tías, where they will face Hierros Díaz Extremadura Miralvalle. A match that may allow the Lanzarote team to surpass its best historical record of 13 victories in the same campaign and end the year with positive feelings.
