Long day of football, emotions and many nerves in the Municipal Field of Yaiza but with a sweet result for US Yaiza that encouraged by its fans achieved promotion to the Third Division sentencing CD Laguna 5 - 4 in the round that extended to 6 penalties after the 2 - 1 of the regular time that remained in the extension. Laguna had won in Tenerife last weekend 2 - 1, leaving the tie open for its outcome in the south of Lanzarote.

Goalkeeper Floro saved two penalties becoming the hero of the decisive moment of the tie. Yaiza started the penalty shootout with a shot by Javi Melián, well controlled by the visiting goalkeeper Muslera.

Yaiza, however, managed to recover despite the successive successes of Laguna and tied the penalty shootout to finally come back. In their order, Dani, the best of his team, scored for Laguna, then Néstor, Siverio and Noe, all with a goal, but then Floro stopped the fifth penalty to Samuel and also the sixth to Moi.

For its part, Yaiza, after the shot of Javi Melián, scored with Omar, Juanca, Tana, Alex Yunes and the definitive goal of Carlos that made the green team and its fans explode with joy amidst cheers, shouts, tears and a heartfelt memory for two deceased people linked to southern football who in good times and bad were always by the side of the team: Ángel Cabrera and Fran Umpiérrez 'Potala'.

Yaiza started winning the match with a goal from Javi Martín who finished inside the area in the 30th minute of the first half, a score with which the teams went to the break after an almost absolute dominance of the locals, although Laguna worried the defense on three occasions led by the technical quality of Dani and Alexis.

With that result Yaiza was promoted to Third Division but there was a lot of game left and Laguna took advantage of a loss of Yaiza in their field to cause a penalty in the 17th minute of the second half, well charged by Agoney.

Yaiza lost control of the game and there were new losses that led to danger, but Floro knew how to solve. The fans saw how the promotion was escaping with that 1-1 favorable to Laguna, but in the agony of the match, minute 42 of the second half, the scorer Alex Yunes appeared to catch a ball rejected by the crossbar with his head and leave the 2-1 on the scoreboard. Yaiza had it in the extra time of the 90 minutes, although the referee, with a decision not without controversy, annulled the header goal of Joni.

Alex Yunes had the opportunity to put the 3-1 to 3 minutes of the second half of the extension but his strong shot crashed into the crossbar and the goalkeeper Muslera and his team were still alive.

The penalty shootout ended up deciding the victory for US Yaiza that came from losing the promotion playoff of the province of Las Palmas against CD Herbania of Fuerteventura. The repechage against Laguna finally brought joy to Yaiza that returns to Third Division after two seasons in Regional Preferente.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, congratulate on behalf of the City Council the southern players, the technical staff led by Juan Antonio Machín, the Board of Directors chaired by Santi Díaz and the fans who played a decisive role throughout the regular season in the Regional Preferente category.

The City Council of Yaiza thanks Protección Civil Yaiza, Local Police, municipal Sports staff and members of Club US Yaiza participating in the organization and development of the contingency plan against the pandemic that made possible the celebration of the sports meeting.
